Rinjani Guide and Porters

Rinjani Guide and Porter are people born in Senaru. Before Rinjani trekking became a commercial destination in Lombok, they were farmers. Times have changed as more people come to trek, and we have educated them about tourism services, especially for guiding and portering during treks. In trekking season, they work in this role, and in the low season, they return to farming near their homes.

Mount Rinjani is their home! They have been climbing the mountain for fun and religious practices for a long time. Since childhood, they were taught by their families to be good stewards of nature, as most of their food comes from the land near the base of Mount Rinjani. At Rinjani Wonders Trekking, we employ them to improve their families' livelihoods and future. Trekking with us supports the local community in Senaru and Sembalun villages.

Guidelines for a Responsible Trek

• Remove Rubbish: Litter is unattractive, harmful to wildlife, and can increase. Avoid bringing bottles and cans. Rinjani has a "pack it in – pack it out" policy, so be sure to carry out whatever you carry in.
• Keep to Track: By staying on the trail, you avoid trampling undergrowth and reduce the risk of getting lost in the forest.
• Camp With Care: When camping, leave no trace of your visit.
• Keep Clean The River Streams & Lake Area: Wash well away from water sources using a container. Soap and detergents harm the wildlife in the streams. Drain used water into the ground.
• Bury Toilet Waste: In areas without facilities, bury your waste in a shallow hole well away from water, trails, campsites, and shelters.
• Care with Fires: Portable fuel stoves are more efficient and less harmful to the environment than fires. If you must use a fire, keep it small and fully extinguish it with water, checking the ashes before leaving.
